Football season is upon us!! I know this list might start some heated debates, but hey – don’t shoot the messenger. I can’t help who made #1 on Insider’s list! Enjoy this article courtesy of www.247sports.com

Want to have some fun before a college football game this season? Odds are, you already have a team or two to support, but tailgating environments can be about more than supporting your favorite team.

Last season, the team atInsiderranked the best tailgate scenes across college football. You can read about all 50 of the best football tailgates out there, in order, atInsider, but we take a deeper look at the top 25 spots.

What constitutes a good tailgate? Insider turned to "tailgate master" Scott Backstrom for his take on the best places to eat, drink and be merry across college football. Tailgating comes down to atmosphere, but many factors make up a good time beyond good weather and football. While many top tailgates come from the obvious power-five programs, there are just as many sleepers and hidden gems in the pregame food game as there are during the season.

25. Army West Point— Army’s Michie Stadium seats 38,000 fans and represents one of the most iconic Northeast football venues. Credit recent stadium upgrades and a relaxing pregame environment. “The Black Knights run a respectable tailgate,” Insider said.

24. West Virginia— Mountaineer Field at Milan Puskar Stadium seats 60,000 fans and gets raucous long before long before "Country Roads" blares from the sound system. Insider highly recommends the deer jerky and pepperoni rolls.

23. Notre Dame— Insider says, "Check out the Stadium Tunnel Tour. Brats, dogs and beer... This tailgate is all about tradition, and South Bend is one of the best locations to be on game day."

22. Utah— Known for some of the best tailgating in the West, Utah’s hot streak on the football field should make for a fun 2019 environment with significant Pac-12 Conference Title implications.

21. Florida— Insider says, "Gators in the swamp. Smokers and grills are plentiful in Gainesville. Keep cool with the fantastic drinks."

20. San Diego State— With a recommendation to enjoy Area F-1 in the parking lots, good food and great weather await Aztec fans.

19. Texas Tech— The Red Raiders are “on the rise” in the tailgating scene with ribs as the meal you can’t miss.

18. Penn State— When the state flocks to Beaver Stadium every other Saturday, Penn State fans have a great time sprawled across massive parking lots for hundreds of thousands of fans annually. Welcome to Nittanyville.

17. Florida State— Insider says, “The War Drum outside the stadium gets the tailgate going long before Chief Osceola rides Renegade into the stadium. Rowdy fans with the war chant and tomahawk chop will make sure you don't forget FSU."

16. Auburn— Auburn has been home to some of the most exciting games of the last 20 years. Before the games, Auburn is the home of some epic, SEC tailgating from a passionate fan base.

15. Virginia Tech— Insider says, “The Hokies know how to give a Virginia Tech game day experience. Arrive early and check out the Hokie Walk and the Hokie Village for music and more!"

14. Georgia— The pregame scenes get stronger and stronger as the home wins pile up for the Bulldogs. Georgia is 13-0 at home over the last two seasons. Who’s ready to welcome Notre Dame to Athens?

13. Washington— Washington provides quite a unique experience when it comes to the tailgating scene. Fans of the Huskies get into a lot more than cheeseburgers when it comes to a seafood-heavy dining scene. It helps with so many wins in recent seasons under Chris Petersen.

12. USC— While every game may not be the Rose Bowl parade, this is a special plays to take in a football game, and the fans do not disappoint when it comes to the tailgate scene. The great weather draws you in, the food, drink and football brings you back.

11. Oklahoma— Just ask Jim Ross about the barbeque scene in Norman. Insider says, “These fans know how to tailgate. Do you love steak? If so... this is your tailgating paradise."

10. Clemson— Insider says, “Large RVs are common, and the tailgating is top notch. Beer, brats, burgers abound. SUPER friendly fans make this one of the best Saturday games you will ever enjoy. GO TIGERS!"

9. Alabama— Another ranking system with Alabama and Clemson neck-and-neck. Insider says, “Crimson Tide has one of the most beautiful spots in the tailgating world. Tide fans know what makes a FAN-tastic environment."

8. TCU— TCU is the king of Big 12 tailgating in the eyes of Insider. The more than 45,000 fans that flock to Amon G. Carter Stadium are going to enjoy it from the first round to last call before kickoff.

7. Ohio State— Ohio State fans are used to seeing the Buckeyes sit in the top 10. The tailgating scene is no different. While the stadium is massive, there are still many great areas and parking opportunities within a close walk and swarmed by unique dining opportunities.

Insider says, “Is it 'nuts' to focus tailgate treats around a buckeye? We think not. Make sure to try the chocolate/peanut butter versions while surrounded by a sea of red."

6. Iowa— Long before any touchdowns or hospital waves, Iowa fans are getting down with food and drink. No one does it better in the Big Ten, according to these rankings.

Insider says. “Home of the Hawkeyes. Kinnick Stadium has a fantastic area to tailgate. Make sure you try the Big A Turkey Leg. HUGE taste!"

One of the top tailgating spots in the country, according to Insider, things are on the way up with Jeremy Pruitt manning the ship. And the fan support will always be a vocal part of the environment.

Insider says, “Boat-gating? Sail-gating? Whatever you want to call it, on game day the VOL Navy rules the Tennessee River and the Big Orange Army rules everything else."

Your FCS tailgating national champions, North Dakota State becomes a different place on game days. Good of Insider to show tailgating respect outside of the power-five conferences. On the field, Matt Entz’s home debut as head coach takes place Sept. 7 against North Dakota.

Insider says, “This might be a small school, but the 'strength of the bison is the herd.' Decked out in green and gold, their RVs dominate the parking lots outside the Fargo Dome. Make sure to try the venison!!"

The Rebels went 5-7 under Matt Luke last season on the field. Off the field, it has been a non-stop pregame party with some great food, music and drinks. The Rebels have a top-three tailgating environment in college football.

Insider says, “What's not to love? The Grove outside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium is 10 acres of Rebel tailgate awesomeness that should be on your college party bucket list."

South Carolina's tailgate scene is very strong. Consistently drawing in students and alumni alike, South Carolina brings the second-best overall tailgating community in the nation, according to Insider.

Insider says, “Tailgating on the 'tail' of a train! The Cockaboose railroad gets serious points for unique locations you can rent on game day, complete with flatscreen tvs!"

1. LSU


They say the SEC means more, and clearly that translates to the tailgating game. With four of the top five tailgate scenes in the country, nobody is better than LSU in the eyes of Insider.

Insider says, “Tigers tailgating starts Friday at 5 p.m. for Saturday games, and the food is off the charts. LSU dominates with unique and delicious tailgating dishes. Jambalaya, YUM!!!"
